Welcome to our Unplugged Village®

Since 2009, hundreds of thousands of Global (formerly National) Day of Unplugging participants have joined the movement to elevate human connection over digital engagement in their cities across the globe.

Vanessa Elias from Thrive with a Guide has been leading the movement in her community. As a Certified Parent Coach, Mental Health Activist, Change Maker and Thought Leader Vanessa launched her Passion Project Block Party USA - as a great way to unplug and connect a neighborhood. Here is a short video explaining how Block Parties can strengthen communities.

She has joined with Chandra Ring, Executive Director of the Wilton Youth Council, to be a powerhouse in building their Unplugged Village. Together, they’ve rallied over a dozen local organizations, including the library, schools, and faith-based groups, to host digital wellness events throughout the year. They implemented the Amplified Student Voices survey to get students perspectives and Wilton schools are working to ban cell phones for students from K-12 starting fall 2024. We are eager to hear how this rolls out.

To extend the unplugging movement into the heart of the community, Camille Carriero from the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, introduced a weekly scavenger hunt at the Farmers Market. Each Wednesday, families search for clues to track down Reese Rooster, who hides in a different vendor booth each week. This fun activity not only encourages kids to explore, families to unplug and connect, but also supports small businesses and promotes healthy eating habits.

Wilton has held several Digital Wellness events to inspire the community to unplug. Check out all the organizations in Wilton that have joined forces to help create a vibrant connected community!

Jay Van Dyke - Top Rated Squarespace Web Designer in New Jersey

Hi, I’m Jay. I’m a freelance web developer who specializes in Squarespace, and I’ve been building and customizing Squarespace sites for over 9 years.

A lot of my experience comes from working inside the real constraints of the platform, not just designing pages but dealing with how sites actually behave once they’re live. That means things like layout limitations, styling edge cases, performance quirks, and the moments where Squarespace is great until it suddenly isn’t.

Most of what I write here comes directly from real projects, real questions, and real problems I see people run into with Squarespace every day.
