Welcome to our Unplugged Village®

Since 2009, hundreds of thousands of Global (formerly National) Day of Unplugging participants have joined the movement to elevate human connection over digital engagement in their cities across the globe.

The entire Escambia Public School District had been given the challenge to Unplug for GDU 2025 by Superintendent Keith Leonard! Many schools in the district participated including Escambia HS, Hellen Caro, Tate HS, Global Learning Academy, West Pensacola Elementary, West Florida High School and A.K. Suter and you can see what some of their activities were HERE and we will mention a few below.

West Florida High School Business Education classes unplugged by playing games related to topics and lessons covered in our classes. In Digital Information Technology (DIT) classes, students learned how to play classic board games. In the Academy of Information Technology classes and the Foundation of Web Design classes, students played Survivor-style elimination and hue-identifying games related to their respective course topics.

At A.K. Suter, Mrs. Chapin's 5th Grade Science classes working in the garden, and Mrs. Barrett's 2nd graders enjoyed some D.E.A.R. time while "unplugged" on Friday.

At Escambia High School Xandria and Payten, two Student Advisory Council members, identified technology as a problem and accepted Superintendent Keith Leonard’s challenge to get involved with GDU. Together they created a full day of activities for their school. Students got a lanyard in the morning and acquire stars during each period where they keep their phones stashed. At the end of the day, those with a full lanyard get a prize. At lunch time there will be several activities including Bingo, Origami, recycled art and a spin the wheel game, where you can guess a historical fact about Escambia. Get it right and you get to dunk a teacher in a dunk bath. What a fun day! Check out the video below of the girls!

If you live in the area and would like to have unplugged programming in your neighborhood, consider joining us, as we all have a stake in building a healthy community!
