Since 2009, hundreds of thousands of Global (formerly National) Day of Unplugging participants have joined the movement to elevate human connection over digital engagement in their cities across the globe.
Calvin Odera & Charity Simwenyi have formed the Digital Health and Education Network Kenya (DHEN-K) and have joined the movement! DHENKA offers Digital Wellbeing events and activities to educate families about screen time matters and provide alternatives that are healthy and community focused. Kenya has a 118% mobile phone market penetration rate but little to no education about screen time dangers. They recently had an awareness event (pictured below) reaching 750 people.
Now other grassroots organizations, teachers and students from nearby villages are joining Calvin and his crew in their mission to spread the message even further. These include: Africa Goal Organization(AGO), Asembo Skills for Hope, Mother Children CBO, Open Arms CBO, Lend a Voice Africa.

For Global Day of Unplugging 2025, DHENKA is planning more activities in partnership with Nairobi County Scouts Dept for March 7-9.
